Pancake Day!

On Tuesday we celebrated pancake day. It is a traditional custom celebrated in the UK the day before Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent.

Why pancakes? This tradition goes back many years when people used to fast during Lent; they had to make a sacrifice. Therefore, making pancakes was a great opportunity for people to use up all the ingredients they could not eat during Lent.

Traditional British pancakes are very thin, made from a batter of eggs, flour and milk and cooked in a frying pan. The most popular toppings are golden syrup and lemon juice with castor sugar.

Here are some pictures where you can find some of our students sharing the custom. Their pancakes look delicious!
